We received an email from Clif Stone looking for information on these

Eugene Davis, PFC, 2108041, HQMC List #1157

Marines of 1/9, I have just learned of this website and I hope I am going about this right.

I was sitting at a desk in Danang after the relief of Khe San when a young officer knocked on the door, came in and said, "Sir, I served with your brother Mike." My reply was something like, "Great, how's he doing?"  When he looked dismayed and said,"I'm sorry, I guess you don't know." I realized that this was not a friendly visit but a condolence call. I got some of the details of the action which apparently involved A/1/9 walking into a concealed battalion-sized bunker complex in the tall grass. Of course, I served as Mike's body escort and was present at his ceremony at Arlington before returning to complete my tour with 1st FAG and other artillery outfits.

I haven't had a chance since then to talk with anyone who knew Mike or who was in that action with him. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who would like to pass anything along to me. Looking at the heading of this document, I don't see a "from" line so, just in case, my email is kamhayden@hotmail.com.

Semper Fi,

William K. (Kam) Hayden,

Major, USMC (ret)

Hello, I was a former member of Bravo Co, 1st Bat, 9th Marines upon arriving in June of 1965 to VN.  I was transferred after about 2 months to 3 - 3 in Chu Lai.  I would be interested in hearing from any members from B Co thru my email at fkampsen@comcast.net.

I am the niece of Pfc. Thomas J. Scullen, killed in action March 2, 1968 at Khe Sahn. If anybody remembers him and would like to share I would greatly appreciate it. Unfortunatly I only know him through the photos and letters left behind. Just to maybe jog a memory - he was tall, thin, from Berea Ohio (near Cleveland), he wore thick glasses and may have been seen helping the chaplain as he was a devout catholic.
Thank You,
Monica Scullen

Hello my name is Dennis Plunkett.

I am a 30 year old man and I live in San Diego. I use to live in Washington D.C. with Magnolia Plunkett my grandmother. She had a son named Raymond Plunkett who is the brother to Walter Young who served in the United States army in Vietnam. I see my relative on the wall as a D.C. veteran and my relatives talk about Raymond Plunkett all the time. I am currently looking for photos of Raymond Plunkett and would be interested if anyone who belonged to 1st Battalion 9th Marines would have any photos, correspondence, videos or voice recording of Raymond Plunkett. It would mean a lot to me since I never met him and my family spoke so highly of him and his service to this country. Currently my family has no photos or anything in regards to Raymond Plunkett and I am in the process of building a website for the younger generation of our family and having something showing Raymond Plunkett would really help show the wonderful achievements of the Plunkett family.

I can be emailed at Niapino@san.rr.com or contacted by phone at 1-858-335-9150. Thank you.

Hello,

My name is Heather Mattingly.  I want to begin by saying thank you and applaude you for the the 1/9 website.  My father served with the 1/9 and also the 2/9.  HQ Co. Dec of 68 to Feb 70, his name is Jess Browning Jr.  I don't know if any of you remember him or even knew him, but he is and always will be my hero.  I don't know much about the time he spent in Vietnam, it's not something we ever really discussed.  But, in the last couple of years it seems as though it is becoming easier for him to talk about with me.  I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the locations and the brave men he served with.  So, any information you or any of your fellow marines could offer would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you again for putting your time and efforts into this website so that those who served may be remembered.

Sincerely,

Heather Browning - Mattingly

Bill,

I was in Delta 1-9 in 1965 & 1966.  I had a squad leader named Cpl. F. P. Hesse.  Did you have a relative in 1-9 in 65-66?

Also, I am trying to help a lady and her son locate any Marines who might have known her nephew Cpl. Tom Mallon.  Tom was killed on Hill 162 Nw of Dong Ha on March 3, 1967.  Were you in Delta when Captain Keys was CO?  Can you guide me on suggestions as to how to locate Marines who knew him?

Thanks in advance.
